We understand that everyone wants to stay local as a commercial driver; however, to become a local driver you must have 6-12 months of driving experience. The primary reason for this is the lack of commercial driving experience, which makes it too risky and cost prohibitive for smaller local and regional companies to hire new drivers. Industry giants, like Schneider National and Werner Trucking offer jobs to new graduates, but they only offer cross-country positions, which means being away from home for 2-3 weeks at a time. If you are not able to perform this type of work, truck driving as a vocation may not be suitable for you. The good news, within 6-12 months we will also help you find a local trucking job.
